Summer camp costs to be covered for Marshall area students
The KAHR Foundation has signed on to sponsor up to 20 Marshall-area high school students to attend BestPrep’s Minnesota Business Venture (MBV) business and leadership camp this summer. The first 20 students to apply will receive this full sponsorship, which covers the cost of the application fee, housing, meals, and all program materials and activities. These students will also receive a $75 stipend to offset travel expenses, disbursed upon completion of the program. Space is extremely limited, but spots are being held until May 6 for these sponsorship recipients.
Minnesota Business Venture is a week-long residential program that provides high school students with real-world skills, offering a rare opportunity to learn about career options, develop financial literacy and workplace skills, cushion their resumes for college applications, and experience college life by living on a campus.
Students from across Minnesota work in small teams to develop an imaginary product and business plan to then present to a panel of judges, “Shark Tank”-style. Throughout the week, students also take part in mock interviews, experience career options, meet with a financial planner, sharpen networking skills, and attend breakout sessions led by industry experts. Students leave camp feeling more confident and prepared for their futures, with increased leadership, teamwork, and presentation skills.
“MBV provides the perfect summer opportunity for students to explore college and a variety of careers, form valuable connections, and gain invaluable leadership experience in a fun and challenging environment. As the week goes on, it’s incredible to watch how quickly the students flourish and grow,” said BestPrep’s Minnesota Business Venture Program Manager Jonathan Filzen.
Minnesota Business Venture offers two sessions and locations for students to choose from: July 7-12 at the University of St. Thomas (session now closed) and July 21-26 at St. John’s University (limited space available). Applications are currently being accepted from Minnesota high school and home school students interested in attending. Additional scholarships are available to students in need. Students or parents can obtain an application and sponsorship information by contacting BestPrep at email@example.com or online at bestprep.org/mbv. BestPrep expects 400 students from over 100 Minnesota high schools to attend one of the two sessions this summer.
