JACKSON, MI — While workers were finishing assembly of the rides and games, fairgoers enjoyed concessions, a bird show and the 4-H barns full of animals.
Joe Krathwohl entertained and educated a small crowd on different types of birds including an Andean condor, black vulture and a green-winged macaw during his show, “The Birdman.”
The Andean concor, named Queen Victoria, stunned the crowd with her ten-foot wingspan.
Even though workers from North American Midway Entertainment were still setting up the rides, which open daily at 2 p.m., carnival games and concessions were already open.
When not readying their animals for judging, 4-H members were found jumping from hay bales or napping with their swine in the pig pens.
