England wing Jonny May reveals bizarre circumstances behind his international debut


Jonny May, who is poised to win his 50th cap for England in the World Cup quarter-final against Australia on Saturday, has revealed the bizarre circumstances behind his international debut, which involved missing a drinking session with his team-mates to have dinner with his parents.

May admits he had all but given up hope of winning his first cap during England’s tour of Argentina during the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia in 2013 when he was handed a surprise call-up for the third Test by former head coach Stuart Lancaster.  

It was his decision to miss a team night out with the non-23 players, before Christian Wade was called up for the Lions as an injury replacement on the morning…
