The Greene County Gatekeepers hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Lydia’s Evermore Farm off Dyke Road in Stanardsville. Aug. 14

The Greene County Lions Club, Piedmont Stella Masonic Lodge #50 and Virginia Blood Services invite everyone to donate blood Tuesday, Aug. 14 from 2-6:30 p.m. at the Eugene Giuseppe Center of Piedmont Virginia Community College in Stanardsville. Aug. 16

The Art Guild of Greene County Bottle & Brush event is an evening of fun, fellowship and creativity from 6-8 p.m. Thursday Aug. 16 at the JABA craft room in the library building in Stanardsville. Participants will paint with tissue paper while enjoying a glass of wine and all supplies will be provided. Cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members. Aug. 17

Stanardsville Volunteer Fire Department will host two bands from 7-10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17. Dust Cutters will play from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and New Shade of Blue will play from 8:30-10 p.m. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Aug. 18

The Greene Cloverleafs Square Dance Club invites the community to a free 30-minute introduction dance from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Nathanael Greene Primary School cafeteria, 64 Monroe Drive, Stanardsville. Line-dancing begins at 7 p.m. The Greene Cloverleafs members regular square dance will be held from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Nonmembers are invited to stay and observe the fun of square dancing. The Greene County Democrats hold the Sunday evening potluck at 5 p.m. at Emmanuel Christian Center in Ruckersville. Bring a dish if you like. Drinks will be provided. We will be discussing pertinent national, state and local issues and planning our strategy for the November, 2018 election. We need everyone’s ideas and inspirations, so please join us for this important event! The event and parking are free and open to the public. Sept. 22

The Art Guild of Greene County will hold a Barn Quilt Workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those interested in creating their own quilt at Hebron Lutheran Church in Madison County. Cost is $30 for a 1×1 or 2×2 block and $40 for a 3×3 or 4×4 block. The blocks will be sanded, primed on both sides and sealed on the reverse side. Participants need to supply masking tape, foam brushes, exterior paint, string and a small paint roller. Designs will be on hand or bring your own.
