- Australia’s former spinner Brad Hogg made an interesting pick as World ODI XI’s captain
- Many thought he would choose either of Virat Kohli or Eoin Morgan
- However, Hogg reasoned that his pick is the “Best ambassador for the game of cricket today”
Australia’s former spin wizard Brad Hogg is one of the most active sports personalities on social media platforms. While he shares his detailed views on the latest trending topics from the gentlemen’s game from his official YouTube channel, he is often seen making interesting revelations from his official Twitter handle while interacting with his fans.
During a Q/A session on Twitter, Hogg made an interesting choice when one of the users asked him to name his World ODI XI’s captain. While many thought it would be Indian skipper Virat Kohli (with a win percent of 71.83) or England’s World Cup-winning skipper Eoin Morgan, Hogg mentioned New Zealand captain Kane Williamson.
Hogg wrote, “Kane Williamson. Best ambassador for the game of cricket today.”
Williamson, however, isn’t a surprising choice as he has done exceedingly well for his side across formats. In ODIs, he led the team to their second successive World Cup final in the 50-over format in England and Wales last year, where they ended as runners-up.
Williamson also has a winning percentage of 55.33 – with 41 victories and 33 defeats in 77 ODIs. Under his captaincy, the Black Caps had also entered the semi-finals of the last edition of the T20 World Cup, held in India in 2016.
Thus, while the national side is a strong force to reckon with at home, they have flourished under the calm and composed leadership of Williamson in ICC events as well. In addition, Williamson is often regarded as a calm leader in the modern era, much like India’s former skipper MS Dhoni. He was lauded for his code of conduct and speech after New Zealand lost the World Cup title, last year, on boundary count to eventual winners and hosts England.
Moreover, Hogg also made a glaring remark on MS Dhoni’s future if the IPL 13 season gets cancelled in the wake of coronavirus pandemic. He believes Dhoni still has ‘one more burst in the next 2 years for India’.
